Simple White is not marble. I am specifically speaking to natural marble stone

You get what you pay for in this case.

Marble does not define one small product type.

What type of marble? Carrara? Calacatta? Calacatta Gold? Thasos? etc.

Where is it quarried? Italy? Turkey? China?

What is the iron content? You'll care when your "white" marble gets permanent orange/rust stains after installation.

There is also a wide range of products between MSI and Walker Zanger!

Jeffrey Court has nice marble.

Artistic Tile is probably more expensive than Walker Zanger.

Also be aware that WZ doesn't really manufacture most of their tile. They source from other manufacturers and get exclusive lines to market under the WZ name. Lastly, WZ got bought out and is no longer a family run business.

I would go to the local higher quality independent tile stores in your area and see what type of Marble they can source.

I got marble tile from the Builder Depot and I was happy with it, they have a lot of choice in marble tile.

@cupofkindnessgw, there can be iron deposits in the marble ... iron exposed to water will rust!

If you search on house "rust stains in marble" in Discussions, you will find lots of posts and photos showing/explaining the issue.

Has anybody used tile from The Tile Shop? Any word on what kind of quality they have for marble?

Dick, I used 3x6 marble subway tile from Tile Shop for a backsplash. Kitchen is 7 years old and tile is fine- no rust. Just not sure which exact tile I used. I just looked at their website to try and figure that out and can't believe how much pricing has gone up in the last 7 years!

I brought home a box of 3x6 honed marble from Home Depot to consider. They were all different sizes! Different lengths, widths, and thicknesses. I liked the look of it, but I was not willing to deal with the size inconsistency.

We did floor to ceiling in a bathroom using a marble look from Tile Shop. It's going on 8 years. No issue.

ETA for a rental, we chose a plain white subway tile from a local tile showroom. My husband then went to HD. It the exact same tile. He took a sample back to the store and they admitted that the same but they coukdn’t honor the price.

Regarding iron and rust in marble - the gray veining in marble like Carrara and Statuary - that's Iron Sulfide. The gorgeous caramel/honey veining in Calacatta that folks pay a TON of money for? That's iron sulfide that has started to oxidize - 'rust.' One reason that gorgeous Calacatta is so expensive, because you're picking a moment in time - one where the grey veins have started to oxidize to the desirable golds, but not so much that it gets ugly. I say this because marble 'rusting' isn't necessarily indicitive of quality. Most of the time more expensive marbles have higher quality control in terms of veining. For Carrara that means consistent feathery grey veins. For Statuary, it means a crisp white background with dramatic splashes of grey veins. For Calacatta it's a white/creamy background with gorgeous honey and grey veins. But all that doesn't mean that if it's not properly cared for, or installed in an inappropriate , those grey veins in Carrara and Statuary won't begin to oxidize, or that those Calacatta honey veins won't turn to rusty orange. If you put marble in a steam shower, be comfortable with grey marble turning rusty. If you put marble outdoors in a wet climate, be comfortable with grey marble turning rusty. Sealing can help and buy some time, but you can't make marble behave like it's not marble. It's like me saying no to an Oreo. Impossible, it's my DNA and I've got the love handles to prove it. Call it my rusty veins.

In my former home we used marble 3X6 tile from Floor and Decor.

Never had a problem with it and it was beautiful.
