Is that overspray from the stain applied to the siding above? What type stain? Brand? Water based or oil?

This is what it looked like when we moved in. Pressure washing didn’t remove anything

    Siding isn’t stained or painted.
    White vinyl siding

It is overspray though, maybe there was wood siding there before the vinyl, and the spray has been on there for a while. You might try crud crutter. If the overspray was oil based, might try a bit of turpentine in a very small area. Use a very stiff brush

    Ok thanks…will try that

Is it vinyl or is it aluminum siding?? if Aluminum it could be breaking down and leaving a white stain on the brick.. I’m not an expert but I’ve seen old aluminum windows and siding leave a white powder over things, maybe vinyl does that also.

    It’s definitely vinyl

The residue seems to be under the windows also. What is the material for the windows?

    Vinyl

Is it anywhere else beneath the siding and or windows, or just on that side of the house? To me it looks like something coming off the vinyl.

It’s on front of house too, under window.

My husband just told me siding and trim is aluminum.

I think the vinyl is most likely the culprit if that is the common denominator. I would call some masonry/stone yards to see what they suggest to clean the brick, maybe a graffiti removal solution??? i would bet Vegas money it’s being caused by the vinyl. I hope maybe someone else will chime in.

Ahh that’s what i thought . i’ve seen that happen with older aluminum storm windows. Now getting the residue off the brick is the big question.

We are about to replace 11 windows in our brick ranch built in 1968 with original wood windows in it now. I was quoted anywhere from 15k to 30k. We have red brick. Are y'all saying that if I go with a less expensive window using vinyl that it will run on my red brick?? Hmmm???

    Not right away

How long?? I'm hoping 10+ years

Hard to say. i think it depends on quality of windows and then outdoor exposure. this is my personal experience and i thought the windows that were exposed to more sunlight deteriorated more than those that had more moderate exposure. This is an issue with aluminum and to a lesser extent vinyl. Never saw it happen with wood.

Brick is usually cleaned with muriatic acid. I suggest using a brick layer who will know how to do it properly.

@wendystringer My house was built 2009-10 and we have the same white powdery problem below our vinyl windows. We've been here 8 years and it's definitely more pronounced.
