Dining room table and shape

Hi there,

Im trying to get some inputs on the best dining room size and shape for my dining room. the room is 12 x 10 ft, with a radiator that sticks out 1ft from the shorter wall and a door that swings open about 2.5 ft from one of the longer walls. if i do the math, rhe max sized table i can have is a 5ft x 2ft table? is that right? shpuld i consider a circular table? also, i like the look of a counter height table. is that an option for me considering the space. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where are the windows in the room? Can you post a drawing of the room, including the door openings, windows, and all dimensions? Also - how many people do you need to seat? Do you have a design style (modern, farmhouse, etc?)

If you want a round table, consider placing one in the corner, with built-in benches along two sides and a couple of free-standing chairs. A smaller counter-height table for 4 might also work. Rectangle or oval might be best.

Where does the door lead to? What is the little box in the bottom right corner? I need a picture of the space too the rad can be changed to something thinner usually. I need some answers , usually a 10 x12 room can handl a 3 x5 rect. or 48" round no problem

Hi there, the door leads to the kitchen (its an old house). the box in the bottom right corner is some exposed brick that goes to the chimney. i would agree that a 10x12 room could handle a 5x3 table, but im thinking the door and the radiator cuts the available space. am i overthinking?

Can you remove the door to the kitchen? That would solve a lot of issues.

what ever the size of your dining table you need to add three feet beyonds the table size to have room to move chairs in and out so people can acces the table. So a 60 inch diameter table would need at least an 11' wide by 11'

Ive tinkered with removing the door and even having having it open into the kitchen (i think my skills are solid enoigh to handle those options). Making it a pocket door is way beyond my skills. so i think im hearing…the door has got to go or be reversed. and if thats the case, a 5x3 table would work well.

I wouldn’t want smaller than 3x5 so would start there and remove or reverse doorif needed.
