Our remodel calls for 4 recessed lights in each bedroom. That alone will be sufficient lighting, but I’m wondering if a light in the middle of the ceiling should be added so a decorative light/shade can be installed. Is this just personal preference? Thoughts?

Many people like to do the "electrical contractor special design initiative": 4 recessed lights, one in each corner, many times adding 1 in the middle for a "5 die" pattern. Others like recessed lights to have a purpose based on the room design and layout, and have layered lighting. So it is personal preference.
