10 foot island w/only two of these? (the island shown here is prob 6X 3.5 , give or take.

Here is one over a very small table. your island is prob 3-4 times as long as this?

12" wide? may be too small. you could try adding a 3rd or get larger lights

this island would be closer to your size. having only two-12" lights would look paltry

this size would be similar to yours. 9' ceilings. island is prob 8-9feet. these are smaller pendants. two wouldn't be enough. 3 is fine. (although, I don't really care for the look of these.)

Try looking for the style you like but in a 14-17" size. see if that fits your island.

what about these? they come in 3 diff sizes. I think this is the 15"

if you only want two, take a look at these Hood pendants. they are a bit larger and come in a wide array of color combos.

They have two size options listed. We’d go for the two 18.25” width pendants, not the 12”. Thoughts?

18" could work. 15" could work. hard to say w/o seeing the kitchen.

You should install 3 island pendant lights over a 10 foot island that are approximately 15″ wide with 10″ on each end to the counter and 27.5 inches in between each pendant

Scale is tough - is the house being built? if so, you could have the electrician rough in electrical for 2 and then wait until you can get in the space to decide (mock ups with strings and balloons can be helpful) - you could also mock up your island with tables/boxes and see what makes sense for pendant size once you can see the bulk and volume of the island - 10 feet is pretty long, if you only want two pendants they are likely going to need to be bigger - the formulas Beth posted will be helpful

Beth and la_la Girl, sorry for the delay in providing these - I've attached (1) a photo of the construction site (weird angle, I know), outlining approximately where the island would be and (2) a preliminary 3D rendering.

Thinking of two potential options: TWO of the 18.25" W x 12.5” H pendants listed in my original message (this)OR THREE of these pendants, measuring 15.25'' W x 15.75'' H each.

In your opinion, which do you think would look best assuming they're both suitable? Or could I go either way?

do you have to decide now? there really isn't a rush to order pendants at this stage.

honestly either could work (I love the 15" one!) But without seeing your kitchen in a finished stage and the proportions, it's hard to say.

I understand you'll need to set the electrical, but that really isn't a big deal to do it afterward. (as long as they run the wires to that spot, you can put in as many holes as you like)

I tend to like the 3 option, but 2 could work as well.

how soon? before the island is even in?

figure out your measurements based on the guides I gave you above. tape out the island space. go get a few balloons and blow them up to size. hang them from the ceiling. not the best visual but it will give you an idea.

if you may want 3, then have the builder ready the ceiling for 3 canopies. If you change your mind, no big deal.
