My friend’s monstera had root rot and needs rescuing

I was not able to salvage any of the roots or aerial roots because of root rot. This plant seems relatively old and very nutrient defficient so I want to know the best way to propagate out of this stem for higher rescue chances, no matter how long it takes. It has been in water for 10 days but nothing happened besides some stem rot at the bottom I cut off. There are some promising looking lumps that I was wondering if they could be new roots coming
