I have seen this rose mentioned a lot in this forum 😁. Ben has a gorgeous video of Scentuous. However I heard the blooms only last two or three days and notnot heat tolerant. So I am still debating to buy or not 😉

    Another underrated rose

I got Vulcano by Kordes from Palatine and have never seen a post about it. It is very resistant to blackspot no spray and blooms nonstop. A gem for anyone with high blackspot pressure.

the color has more pink in the orange, no scent.

Vulcano, Dianela! I really like it. Thanks for the heads up!

Scentuous is not being ignored. It is a Tantau rose, and that large German company hasn't been particularly interested in introducing its newer roses in the US like Kordes has. Scentuous' first name was Gartentraume and it was introduced in Germany in 2005. It was sold as Enchantress in the UK starting in 2010. Finally, Certified Roses was able to introduce Gartentraume as Scentuous in the US in 2020. It's been here less than three years. I think it's been mainly available from Palatine in Canada, which also sells other desirable Tantau roses. Diane

Dianela, how old is your Meteor? Mine is brand new and seeing what mine will be some day is encouraging.. Yours is brilliant!

    Diane,

Well this has led me down a rabbit hole. Is there any way or anyone else selling tantau roses in the states? Especially “chippendale” that might be the most gorgeous roses I’ve ever seen.

Kristine my Meteor is new also, planted in March. It has grown much better than expected and with beautiful clean foliage.

Chino I have never seen Chippendale being sold here but there are many sellers now of unusual roses, I will keep an eye out for you. In the mean time have you taken a look at Abraham Darby, Evelyn and Boscobell ? They are very changeable roses within that color range you may love and can be found. I only grow Bosco from that bunch as they all get too much blackspot here, but Diane could show you some of her amazing blooms.

The grower Francis Roses was Tantau’s US representative 3 years ago. Probably still is. Tyler Francis has posted on this Rose Forum. He will know what is sold here, and where.

Mx Chino, I don't think Chippendale is sold in the US yet, but don't give up. Palatine sells Ascot and Augusta Luise, among others of Tantau's. Go to Tantau's website and request their wonderful catalog, which I hope they still send free, no shipping. That will really get you going. My personal favorite Tantau rose is Augusta Luise which I got quite a few years ago from Hortico in Canada. That was the last year Hortico sold it. I have a whole mental list of Tantau roses I want. All my favorites were hybridized by Hans Evers, and he died a number of years ago. We won't see his likes again for quite a while. Diane

Dianela, boscobell does look pretty close. As luck would have it I’m going to a new nursery about 50 miles away that has a bunch of own root plants still available. I will add to to my list to get.

Oops. Meant to say own root Austin roses.

    Dianela,

Thank you for outlining those roses, none of which I have. Studying then up will be my next step. Hope they all become much beloved keepers for you.

Mx Chino, I love Boscobel, but mine is grafted--I love grafted roses, too.

Here's a recent Bosco photo. Diane

This post got me to thinking about my garden. I'd say at least 90% of the roses in my garden don't get talked about. Most of them have been around for over 15 years with just a few being recently released. (Now, before I go any farther, you must understand I spray my roses every two weeks with a fungicide.) A good example of what I grow.

    Hannah Gordan---A great floribunda

Lady of the Dawn---Another floribunda you very rarely hear about.

Charisma---You talk about a splash of color.

Eutin---How often has anyone said anything about this easy to grow beauty?

And those are the 4 floribundas that I grow. My HT's, when is the last time anyone has said a word about Louise Estes, Crystalline, Randy Scott, Hot Princess, Neptune, Camphill Glory, Folkmagic. I could go on but I think you get the idea that I grow what makes me happy.

Now I do grow some popular varieties with a decent handful of Austins.

    Munstead Wood

Scepter d' Isle (16 year old bush)

    Molineux

I enjoy the different varieties that make good garden shrubs and are good cut flowers. Show me more people. I've already got my eyes stuck on a few that have already been posted.

Ken, you brought up a point that I am starting to include in my rose wish list criteria: good cut flowers. I love to bring my roses inside, so I can enjoy them while I work. I now realize that long stems and petals with substance make a huge difference in how long a bouquet will last while looking fresh and "alive".

I like the idea of a thread for unsung beauties. Seems like many Tantaus are sung but not much available.

Some of the roses I like that other people don't seem interested in:

Carnival Glass...one of my favorite minis

Karine...a seedling of Ruth Knopf who named it after her daughter. It is sweet and airy.

Hawkeye Belle, always kind of startlingly pretty

    Marjorie Fair

Betty Boop ..I no longer have it but I liked it.

Centenaire de Lourdes This one is a good bloomer, healthy and vigorous. Has been used to breed some Delbards I think.

@erasmus_gwrasm, I think the reason most seem to be not interested in many roses is because no one knows about them. Thanks for showing some of yours! I especially like Hbelle. Is she healthy in your garden! I grow multiple Marforiejorie Fair and love her. I wish I sill had my pics to show Christian J (lost to RRD) along with Setina.Cl. Clotilde Soupert was killed back for the first time so no new pics of her. There are just so many roses I love and hope folks dont mind my mentioning them without photos to back them up. Some of my other unsung heroes are Paul Jerabek, Tooth Fairy, Dream Land Greetings,, Peggy M and ese;pecially Emma June. ... Ill try to add pics of her...CHARInG Charming!!! Also loving Martine Guillot! and Katherine Zeimet. Gold Blush and especially Lemon Zen!!! Great rose!

I love Scentuous. It is remarkably beautiful, and the fragrance is wonderful, a rich and complex perfume. The blooms don’t last long for me, and the plant is not very vigorous, but I love it anyway.

One rose that I rarely if ever hear spoken about is Pure Perfume. It is lovely, with pure white blooms heavily doubled. The fragrance is that of Sweet Tarts to my nose. It doesnt get too big, but is vigorous.

Yes, Hawkeye Belle is pretty healthy. I'll look up some you mentioned. Another one I don't hear much about but like is France Info. Mine was in too much shade but now gets more sun and is cranking out the blooms . It's very healthy, and very fragrant. I don't have a very good picture.

I missed out on Ascot from Palatine this past season. I will keep trying.

The singles are often overlooked. Here's a few favorites.

    Playboy

    Ellen Willmott

    Emily Louise

    Love those singles!

swooning over ellen wimwilmott. Reminds me of Emma June.

Eplantsireland.com had grafted Chippendale, and many in my fb group got them.

Out of rosenheim has been very healthy, continous bloomer, a nice red that looks like an English rose. Bush size stays perfect (no crazy octopus canes), very healthy and does well in our hi heat and humidity weather.
