We just had our floors refinished and decided to change the spindles at the same time. The newel post and handrail stayed. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize that the fillet on the underside of the handrail was going to be an issue when installing iron spindles.
I really like the look of the iron spindles going into the bottom of the railing instead of using a shoe to cover up where the existing hole was from the wood spindle. Now I’m wondering if I should just put a square wood spindles back instead of using the iron. The newel posts are curved so I don’t think that’s going to look good and I don’t like the shoe at the top of the iron spindle. Has anybody had this experience and can lend some advice?
