Not stone. Install bookmatch marble instead. That big box is perfect for it. No mantel or art.

First? rotate the darn pic.

NO stone. Get a beefier surround, change the ( beige ......what is it? )

Lose the mirror for art, clear off the clutter.

For now? A paint job on mantel surround to white as house/window trim will help. The paint on the fire bump appears different than wall color? If it is, match the walls. More important seems a new wood floor and lose the wall to wall carpeting. Posting a clearer photo, and including the rest of the space and different angles would also help.

A stone fireplace invokes a built in place, still standing long after the home has decayed around it vibe, With the window there and no chimney I am not sure you want to draw attention to the truth that this is not a true woodburning fireplace. Stone would withstand the heat a roaring fire gives off. That's not a need for this firebox.
