I would stick with wood even if it doesn’t match perfectly. That’s what I plan to do in my kitchen remodel.

I had this problem as well and decided to go with wood. My back simply cannot hack tile and wood is the best thing for it. An imperfect match or intentional change to another kind of wood is ok.

IMO it can be matched with a good flooring finisher . I really dislke tile underfoot too it is hard on all your body. If you post pics here that helps and you need to talk to some floor finishing people You get unfinished walnut flooring and they match what you have I do it all the time for clients.

Thank you - never knew there is unfinished walnut flooring out there. I will ask around now. My contractor was quick to suggest tile, but he doesn’t live here!
