Hardwood not taking stain at seams

Why would a hardwood floor not take stain at the seams? Should I ask the contractor (a flooring company) to redo?

Pics in first comment. Red oak. Properly conditioned. Laid 6 weeks ago. Sanded last week. Stained 1 coat Varathan Aged Barrel. Sealed 1 coat (of 3) of oil-based sealant. The entire first floor is done in Aged Barrel, so a different stain for the kitchen isn't going to happen.

It could be either water not dried in the joints from water popping or uneven sanding.

It looks like your floor has a surface finish applied over the stain. The stain likely "took" all over, then it was removed when abraded during the finishing process. I'd say the end joints swelled and the floor was abraded too aggressively.

It's possible that the affected spots could be rubbed down by hand, touched up, have urethane applied, then be carefully abraded before applying another coat over the entire floor.
