Actually I know of reputable people that use the berries medicinally. Suppossedly they're the least virulent of mature plant parts.

And after all, in the South, we grew up eating this stuff.

the problem is.. they are an attractive nuisance.. in that they mimic pretty grape clusters.. and children ought to be protected from all ALL poisonous things .. a few berries may not hurt a 100 pound plus adult.. but the same couple might harm a 50 pounds crumb muncher ...

and really.. if you have to boil something for an hour or 3.. to make poke salad.. crikey dude.. find something else to eat.. this isnt mid century 1800s.. and food is rare..
