Smink Tiles, Pitaya white granite countertops, kitchen facelift

I just wanted to share the awesomeness that these tiles are with Houzz users, since I don't see any hits in the discussion.

Smink Tiles, custom screen printed, custom layout tiles for my kitchen backsplash.

I was looking at boring white geometric or textured tiles but felt like I wanted something with more intrigue...and I think I nailed it :)

These tiles are not cheap -- but it's definitely worth it.

Also, stoked on the countertops - Pitaya White granite, AKA Rocky White here in BC.

Eventually may get new cabinet doors but these are made of repurposed wood, and were part of the original construction of our stretch of strata.

@mcgeee I tested the honed and the polished with olive oil, hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, red wine, redwine vinegar, hoisin, etc. I left it for 30 minutes and then again over night. The honed stained, especially the oil and the mustard, but the shiny did not.

Hey. I’m in BC as well. Looking at rocky white counters. How are they doing re staining etc. also doing Douglas fir modern cabinets. Love your funky tiles and I’m so happy to see something different. Curious as to your supplier for the countertop slabs

Oh I love to see a unique tiled backsplash! Love it, it’s so fun! I’m almost done with mine and I went for fun and happy too. Great job, enjoy!

@mcgee They are shiny, I think that was the only option with the thicker cut. It's not too shiny for me. No stains so far but I've been trying to be careful. There is so much variation in the colour on the surface, and sometimes it looks like there are little stains but it's just part of the stone. I did have to change my sink/soap situation as whenever there is standing water, the stone absorbs it abit and it gets darker. But this goes away over time as the water dries. I absolutely LOVE them and I"m so glad I chose this over the quartz, for the asthetics.

@Keen B did you end up getting the pitaya granite? I'm interested in this one as well, but am concerned about staining. After reading the comments, I guess I'd go with the shiny.

@Tastie Cereale No, I reserved two slabs that had as little "dots" as possible. They were stacked on top of each other, and supposedly the same cut, etc.; when they moved the front one, the second one had what looked like rust in areas. It freaked me out, and then I could not find another set of less busy slabs near me. I ended up with Ijen Blue quartzite. I love it, but it needs to be sealed from oils.
