Inset ceiling options?

Ready to paint but not sure about the drop ceiling feature in our living room?
Should I paint the entire ceiling white or paint the drop portion only? Or maybe the inset only? (Lightly textured, never painted before so it could be scraped).
Also color recommdations please? I just don't have a decorators touch!

Could you step back and try to get a photo of the room as a whole? The inset seems to be an unusual geometric shape, and I can’t tell from your photos if it should be emphasized or not. Also, we need to see more of the decor to comment on possible colors.

I would paint the entire thing white. Right now, it looks like someone forgot to paint it, and it appears to be a bit dirty. Its an unusual look, but, I like it.

It isn't a drop ceiling; it is a tray ceiling. You can paint the tray any color you like...usually something that will work with a sofa or you can paint it white.

Here is a light blue ceiling, with a chandelier somewhat like yours and a light blue rug has been chosen for under the dining table.

Thank you for all replies, I really appreciate it! Yes it definitely needs paint, the inset has a faint peach color under the white texture 🙄 and the windows are North facing. The blinds, lighting, flooring & fireplace face will eventually be changed but I need to motivate the process with a fresh coat of paint first!  The bigger expenses will have to wait a bit I'm afraid. The entrance/stairwell is BM Ranchwood so leaning towards warm white tones?

I'm interested in that beautiful Branchwood entry. Benjamin Moore pairs Branchwood with Cloud White. Why not use their recommendation...it's a beautiful color. and should transition easily from the entry. It reads warm which is good for North light. Get samples first of course.

And paint all the walls and ceiling the same color. Don't accent the tray ceiling..it's a little busy. All one color will help neutralize it and make the space feel cohesive. And use flat paint...it honestly enlarges a space because a shiny finish stops the eye.

What undertones does Cloud White have? This warm off-white paint color has subtle taupe undertones. Its undertones offer plenty of warmth without looking too creamy or yellow. I've learned from experience that when Cloud White looks yellow during testing, it means it's the wrong color for your space.Feb 24, 2023

Cloud White looks like a nice complement to Ranchwood, but it is darker than your current ceiling and looks very close to your wall color. I think you’ll have to try samples of a few whites to find the right shade in your room. I would paint the entire ceiling the same white color.

Several paint makers have a Swiss Coffee which is acutally a warm but not yellow off-white. We have Kelly Moore 23 Swiss Coffee on our walls and love it. Benjamin Moore's is beautiful.

The more I look at this room the more I am convinced that painting out the ceilings and walls into the same color will totally transform this space. Doors and trim too.
