Tulsa Hit with 100 mph winds

We have been without power since Saturday night when 100 mph straight line winds caused havoc throughout the town. This is the worst damage to the Tulsa county power system since the ice storm of 2007. Poles snapped in two, trees down all over the place. We are blessed that our power finally came back on. A friend of mine just called me today and he has relatives staying with him that still don't have power. Sunday our heat will go up over 100. I pray for the people who will not have power restored by then. It was hideous enough for us in the mid 90's.........Since we had no power, I did get some pictures with my camera and I thought I'd share a few:

I have few in ground daylilies but this has been here for decades. It's spoiled me for eyed daylilies as the white of the base color really is pretty darned white. None of that old newspaper color. It blooms in a massive flush for a week or more, making it very attractive in the landscape:

Pandora's Box:

This was a bonus plant this year and happily one I had thought of before about trialing. We will see how it does in our heat:

Heavenly Orange Blaze:

It's a shade of yellow I like and so far is pretty sunfast in temperatures under 95 (we haven't had anything higher yet). I love the way this one bloomed:

Pass The Butter (up the stairs?)

Another one I've had since Hector was a pup in ground. A cloud passed by and the color just glowed:

Wayside Guppy Gums:

One of my oldest daylilies. I've never had another one that has had this beautiful blend of colors:

Coral Corduroy:

Thanks to seeing a clump shot of this by Mantis (and the fact that it's a Richard Norris intro), I was enabled into trying it: This is the FFE and true pink.

I am so glad you are ok, Maryl! I have been away last weekend, then so busy once I got back, I never connected you to the storms til Debra brought up that you were absent. I did not know so many people were still without power either. How terrible. Weather is so different, we are usually so much warmer here. I have not used the air conditioner the last couple days. and at points been chilly. Definitely not complaining, and happy that I got some rain, without the storms. Your daylilies look lovely. Wonderful color on Wayside Guppy Gums, and every year I have admired the form and color of your Coral Corduroy

Glad you are safe and that is what is most important. I hope others will get their power back too before the heat gets to 100. Your pics are so pretty and they are holding up good in the heat. I agree with Sherry that the weather patterns have been different this season. Take care

So glad you are safe. we were worried about you Coral Corduroy: is gorgeous. I certainly see why you love the colors. Your clump of Pandora's box is lovely too and, as you say, appears very white. I like Pass the butter ans it is neat when they line up like that. Wecome back and welcome bacak to air conditioning.

Glad you are safe! Our winds of 70mph last spring were bad enough; can't imagine 100mph.

I like Coral Corduroy the best; Blushing Escapade is second.

I forgot about Pandora's Box, I used to have it. I enjoyed it a lot but got tired of it and it stopped performing well for me.

Yes, Maryl we have worried about you. So glad you could finally post again. I can't imagine 100-mile an hour winds or being without power so long with temps in the mid-90s. Did you have a generator? How did you keep cool in that?

Your daylilies look beautiful. My favorites are Heavenly Orange Blaze (glorious shade of orange) and Coral Corduroy with all those ruffles. Pass the Butter looks like a very nice yellow. My Blushing Escapade that Kate sent me just started blooming recently. It is a pretty shade of pink.

By the way, here's the Pink Aloha seedling you've been asking about. I posted it while you were without power.

Maryl, so glad you have power now. That is no fun. And the damage those winds can cause. Just thankful you are safe. I think you will like Blushing Escapade. I know you don’t get a lot of rebloom but this one rebloomed at least two times last year so don’t be surprised if you see rebloom scapes. I have always admired Coral Corduroy. Such lovely colors.

Just like everyone else stated, so glad you are well and things are returning to normal. Your photos today are so lovely. My favorite blooms are Wayside Guppy Gums and Coral Corduroy.

Glad to hear that you are safe, Maryl, and that your power is back on. I grew up without air conditioning, but I can't stand being without it now.

Your daylilies are beautiful. Pandora's Box does have a very white petal color. Blushing Escapade is my other favorite.
