Sweet Gum Tree Branch broke - Seal it?

Due to high winds, a large limb broke off. One of the lower limbs. There is another low limb that is quite long that held up fine. Like to know if I should seal the exposed trunk or leave it alone. We are in the NW area of Houston area so it is hot, humid and hurricane chances are decent. Thx

^^^ Yes! Sealing, painting or otherwise messing with limb breakage or large pruning cuts has not been a suggested practice for many years.

is it really that close to the house.. IN AN HURRICANE AREA...

IMO... have the entire tree removed immediately.. or before the next storm... else i might think it will end up on the house...

we have very little or few facts to work with here.. but it seems you are worrying about a band aid.. when amputation might be required...

ps: as much water as might be sealed out.. will be sealed in.. causing the tree to rot from the inside out.. ergo.. as noted by both above.. let it hang dry in the air.. so NO tar on trees.. its for the parking lot.... but you are going to remove it anyway.. so why bother now...
