Aha, success. This actually shows both "Finished Business" and "Green Revolution". FWIW the latter is on the left...

Pieter - Thank you for the information but I'm a little confused. It can only be a reversion if it resembles only the first origin, as in Loyalist? Can not a hosta revert back more than one origin? Following Revolution's history it goes back to Fortunei and the it does resemble many of the Fortunie's.

Do I make any sense.

I had Revolution a few years back and it sported (?) every year so I gave up on it and just named it Rev-Rev (Revolution reversion). Below is a picture from 2016 but is much larger now and a nice plant, looks a lot like Fortunei Hyacinthia to me.

Following this post. North, glad you asked. There is more to it then meets the eye with hostas.

Yesterday I was at LOTG and they were selling hostas that reverted on a clearance .

They were mentioning that it is possible to come back next year as regular plant. I am suspicious of that comment. I did get couple of clearance pants and will be happy one way or other as it has great shape and structure.

But once plant reverted it does not go back, right?

You're so right, Linda. Once a reversion happens it won't go back the next year to what it once was.

The all-green sports out of 'Revolution' and 'Risky Business' are vigourous growers and nice enough plants in their own right, BUT, even though the family tree extends all the way back to 'Fortunei Hyacinthina', they are sufficiently different from FH to no longer qualify for the name.

Just for fun, I just took a picture that shows them both. Notice how the GR leaf is more rounded and a different shade of green...just give them whatever garden name you like...

Thanks so much for clarifying this for me. Revolution definitely is an unstable hosta. Here’s a picture of a previous sport I kept from this hosta. I like the round leaves with the sharp point.

So do I, it's a nice, vigorous plant that draws attention to itself in the garden for me, make a nice showing indeed.

Curious though, I had a June in the front yard that reverted to Halcyon, a lovely hosta in its own right. Separated it and planted it in the back yard. A couple of years later, June leaves were showing up in the Halcyon clump. Go figure…..is that a sport then?
