Guidance Need it

I’m currently renting this place, but I’m allowed to paint it if I want to. I want to paint the exterior, but I have a mental block. This house is in Hawaii !! Can you guys suggest exterior paint colors or even ideas on how to give it some appeal!! The paint is the most important !!

Will you paint it yourself??? Big job. I imagine a professional would charge at least $10k. You’ll have to clean it up good first, and make any necessary repairs. It was a full 2 days of prep for my house by a 2 man crew before they started painting.

With that green roof the current color isn’t a great look IMO. White would work or a warm grey with some green in it like this one.

Truthfully I don't think it looks that bad. I'd try adding some potted plants to bring in some color.

I agree with shiripp. Add some outside colorful furniture and add some really nice potted plants, or if there is an area to do some actual plants, I would also do some planting. I would not spend a lot of money painting a rental house, especially, one that the paint looks to be in good condition.

Too big and too expensive a job for a rental. Don't forget you will have to do inside and outside of

    carport.

Not that many options with a green roof. We have one house in our neighborhood with a green tile roof and the house is painted white.

I think the color looks like beautiful melon, a perfect South Pacific color for a place in paradise. I would play up the color up with some tropical flower container gardens. Make it intentional. Add some bold throw pillows to embrace the color. Save your money for other things, but don't paint a rental.

Thank you for all your suggestions, I might end up buying some big planters so I can put on the side of the windows. Maybe also do some stone on the pillar , this is a long term rental that’s why I want are able to do some changes but the color is just old and different tones at this time .

It's not a bad house, but crying out for some greenery. In Hawaii, that shouldn't be hard. Grow a peach vine on that fence. Maybe peach Bougainvillea. Maybe roses. A row of hibiscus. I'm no expert on Hawaiian plants, but try for some natives.

I also wouldn’t want to invest the $, time or effort on a rental that doesn’t look too bad. Not knowing the circumstances so this may not apply, but landlord’s lives change, people die or get divorced and all of a sudden they need to move in or sell the rental. So long term can change in an instant.

I would put my energy into creating a garden oasis where the house just becomes a backdrop for the beautiful and lush plants you can grow in Hawaii.

Is there dirt inside the fence or is it all paved? If dirt, I would plant some climbing vines all over that fence...bougainvillea, passionfruit, plumbago etc. I've never gardened in the tropics so don't know what else might do well there, but a garden nursery can help you figure out what would work in your yard. You could also plant things like hibiscus which could poke through the fence or put a few pots in front of the fence with climbers in them, too, if there's not dirt behind the fence.

I'd give anything to be able to grow some of these:

Easy to grow tropical vines with blue flowers
