I got a load of silver-plate at an auction for $10. Some of it, like a sugar bowl and gravy boat are pretty and I use a lot. Some of it is monogrammed with some random initials and I might take to the swap shop at the dump. At the same auction we bought a clock which turned out to be a reproduction.

We got a pair of mahogany sleigh beds from the '30s for $100/each. Essentially IKEA prices.

Just last week, while browsing a local & larger vintage store with individual seller booths I found something for my sister - a vintage Pyrex small red refrigerator dish with a LID! She has the set - you know - the primary yellow, blue & red containers with clear glass lids. Her set has lids for the large yellow, the smaller blue but not the 2 smallest red ones. I texted her a pic & even though the red container color is quite worn & the lid has 2 small chips, for the $10 asking price she said Yes! please. The lids only are harder to find. Always fun to spend time in these kinds of stores. Travis - I do like your foyer lamp find, The simple pattern & white glass seem a good fit with the white spindles of your staircase.

I love stained glass, and it hadn't occurred to me it might be easy to pick up at antique shops now that it's "out of style". I'm going to see what I might find.

Mrs. Pete - had never heard that so looked it up. Lots of reading to do… My sister - the family environmentalist will be most distressed. Me too.

I love the antique malls because it seems like a win-win for both sellers and buyers. with so many dealers selling their wares, it really brings customers in an atmosphere of reduced overhead.

That, along with so much competition, it can bring the cost of getting some antiques for the house at reasonable cost. I would never want to make any dealer feel they were taken advantage of, but I don't want to be either as a buyer.

An antique mall atmosphere really feels like it works for all parties.

My entire home is either antiques from my family, from craigslist, from the alley, or from antique stores or auction houses. One of the best was a huge glass front chemistry cabinet that I used as a china cabinet. My desk is an old farm table that I salvaged from the trash when I was in my 20s. I can't believe how many homes it has traveled to with me. And, it lived in my parents' basement for quite some time too.

I had the same issue as a lot of young people in my youth, and that was getting hand me down furnature from ancestors. As they died off, I felt nostalgia for them.

But what to do? They did not match?

So i ended up painting the lower portions a darkish brown and then redid all the tops with some black cherry i had run through the sawmill. Valuable antiques i left as is, but i got 7 matching pieces from doing this.

I saved money and got matching furnature. And you guys know me; I am all about matching!!! 😀😀😀
