I'd go with a deep, rich, glossy red, unless the current door is a really nice, natural wood, in which case, I'd leave it.

I ran across your other post asking for help with stain colors, and was going to encourage you to not go too dark on the stain, but I see you’ve already swung into action! I was also going to suggest getting a carpenter to cut the semicircle glass areas in the door in a more rectangular shape to update it. The reds on the doors do look good with the deep brown, but I’ve always liked grey-greens with browns. Something like in the photo below (the roof in the pic looks similar to your siding stain so you can see how it would look). You could paint your window, door and garage door trim in a black like in the picture to make them stand out a bit more (something like SW Iron Ore). Normally in an 80’s house like this, I’d recommend trim same color as siding, but a really dark stain tends to obliterate the windows, so a bit of delineation around them might help. If the grey-green is too bold, I’d go with a lighter tan. Or paint the garage doors same as the siding and choose some other fun color on the front door.

Oh, and if you go with a brighter color on the front door, put bronze or black hardware on. Also, a rectangular natural wood plaque (horizontal or vertical) on the long expanse to the left of the front door, with large black house numbers on it, would help break up that expanse, though a few smallish trees once you do the landscaping would help with that too (Japanese maple, for instance).

I would do like pbon suggested—paint the garage doors the same as the house, and then do a colorful door. Landscaping is going to be a gamechanger for you too. I love how chartreuse greens pop against a dark house. We also have an 80s contemporary, and we replaced the double doors with a large white oak plus sidelight.

Thank you for your great suggestions. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to pick a door color. I definitely think we need a pop of color with the siding being so dark. My husband is leaning towards a Red. Do you have a favorite red? My original thought was black before siding was done but I think it will be much too dark. Eventually we will be updating the front door to a modern door
