All new from tubers. They were cheap and laid out at the entrance of my grocery store so it was too much temptation. I have grown dahlias a couple of times. One time they were afflicted by broad mites after only a couple of buds had bloomed. It was disaster and it meant I skipped dahlias for many seasons thereafter.

Really pretty! I grow/store dahlia tubers and like them best as cutting flowers. I’m also growing some dahlias from seed started in April this year and aready see a few flower buds, so am impressed!

Thanks. I have never grown them from seed. That is pretty impressive speed from seed to bloom.

All my display spots are always occupied by one of my blooming orchids (which is a dangerously burgeoning collection 😊) so no room for cutting flowers. The only flowers I cut are the sweet peas but they are so fleeting in our conditions that I don't grow them as often.

Beautiful! Do you grow them in pots? Outside or indoors? How much sun do they get? How do you overwinter?

Yes, outdoors on an open ba;cony. They get 2-6 hours of sun. I am actually finding that some of them simply wilt with a couple of hours of sun so I am not giving them as much sun as I could. I did try growing them indoors over the winter but they need a lot more light than I can give them so I just save the tubers.

Thanks. I have two (supposed to be big red flowers) that sprouted well but are really struggling in the sun. Wilting and one is not coming back… so seems more shade is almost better

I think the whacky weather this year has messed with their ability to take sun. Either that or root rot set in at some point. I gradually up potted them as their roots filled up the pots. I used well draining mix. Now, if they sulk I am just going to ignore them till they are dead.😊
