if you choose SW Alabaster (which I LOVE) I would not paint the trim a contrasting White.

Alabaster with White trim is not a good combo.

Paint the walls, ceiling and Trim all the same color for a fresh look.

I like barely cream walls with plain white trim. My painter (DH) likes Behr so we've used swiss coffee and blank canvas as wall colors with good results. The colors are bright and clean without looking too stark. With lighter colors you do have to worry about it reflecting what's around it so definitely make poster board samples and move them around your space.

I have painted one of the bookcase doors with Alabaster and it seems a bit creamy as a trim color throughout the house, though that may be because it’s set sgainst the current white

I should also mention that most of the walls in the LR are original shiplap. We were encouraged to remove them when we first bought the house and drywall the room, but i liked the texture they added and chose to keep them. (Plus it was cheaper!) Never imagined they’d be so in style but glad to have them! i know they’re usually painted a shade of white.

Why not just leave the cabinets and trim as they are?. They look in fine shape and the white is nice. Find a color that works with them. Now all you have to do is the walls...isn't that easier?

I'm not fond of Alabaster...we used it and has an odd yellow/green undertone to me. I love Swiss Coffee, different paint makers have their own version.

Tracefloyd I am happy with the current trim color but it all needs a fresh coat of paint so realize that a new wall color may work better with a slightly different shade of white than what’s currently there.

If they need a coat after 20 years thats pretty good.

Paint companies, on their website, will suggest colors that work together with the color you select. Especially true to get the right shade of white that goes with your color. I looked them up:

BM Natural Linen...they say go with White Heron

BM Halo..they pair with Bavarian Cream...yes, they both have green undertones

Like you said, get a White you like on it's own. Honestly what I would do? Paint everything the same color including walls, trim, ceiling, FP, Bookcase. everything. I am one of those tired of contrasting white trim and love the new monochromatic or 'color wash' look.

I do like the monochromatic look but DH installed all the trim in this house and loves having his handiwork stand out 😉. i think the room may look less choppy and calmer with less contrast between walls and trim. We already have alot going on with all the books etc

I think, or I know, you should try B.M. Gray Owl. Get Samplize (https://bm.samplize.com/products/gray-owl-2137-60) and move it around the room at different times of the day. It should be perfect for south exposure. It will also compliment your upholstery colors and the floor.

You'll want a neutral white that doesn't lean toward an undertone like yellow, peach or pink.

I tried 4 colors until I decided on Alabaster. It had no undertones and I love it.

The couch is actually a sage-ish green, not grey. BeverlyFLADeziner, I take it from your comment you would shy away from Alabaster?

We just used BM Simply White on replacement crown, casings, and baseboards. Walls are SW Alabaster. Pairing those two whites probably violates some rule, but it looks great to me. Old trim was SW Alabaster, same as walls. That was fine, too too, but the subtle contrast of whiter trim makes me like the wall color better than before, and Simply White is just a gorgeous white.

This is our Behr version of cream walls and white trim. The walls are blank canvas, the trim is their ultra pure white.

May I also suggest that when you put everything back you edit out some of your decor items? That will give your rooms a fresher looks as well.

White on walls would fighting with white trim, built-ins...

I would go with off-white for the all walls to pop up white trim and built-ins.

Yes for all walls with the same paint.

Deegw, the bookcase and definitely the fireplace mantle will get a bit of a refresh, but I’m afraid the number of books will not decrease! We get new books frequently and go through those shelves every few months struggling over which books to remove to make room for the new ones. We like this room to have a cozier, library like feel. We have a kitchen/ family room with a more open feel where our television is.

Pictures in this house rarely look like what I see, but here’s one showing SW Alabaster on walls and BM Simply White on trim. Ignore door - that’s just primer.

We have BM Bone White on walls (which is sort of creamy) and Dove White trim. My painter suggested this combo. We like it a lot.
