What is a standard wood vanity that you are comparing paint to? Clear finished oak will hold up better than homeowner painted mdf both because oak is harder and small chips in the finish show on paint but blend on oak. Professionally painted maple cabinets versus professionally stained wood cabinets? Probably not a huge difference.

I have a solid dark oak vanity now and it's held up amazing.  Still looks new.  I'm worried if I purchase a vanity that is a color (I love the navy vanities) the finish will chip easily and not wear as well as my oak one.

I renovated my kitchen and 3 bathrooms a few years ago: all painted wood. My experienced kitchen designer (KD) highly recommended “Bertch USA” bathroom vanities; I chose “Plain & Fancy” custom kitchen cabinetry, which my KD also loves to use. My experienced carpenter loves using Bertch vanities; and “Plain & Fancy” cabinetry; as both are beautifully made, and problem free. Both have beautiful paint finishes and dove tailed soft closing drawers. I chose 1 charcoal and 2 sage vanities for my bathrooms; and gray for my kitchen cabinets. Absolutely no chipping, scratches, or any other issues. They look as good today as the day of installation. I cook from scratch, so my kitchen gets used alot.
