It looks to be water and/or weather related. What has the weather been like - temperatures and rainfall? When do you decide to water and how? For how long?

there is a rather active tree forum.. next time you need info on your tree...

the soil showing in the first pic.. might be showing signs of drought'...

where are you.. big city name.. and when is the last time the soil was moist from significant rain or was it early spring..??

take a hand trowel or tablespoon and go dig a 3 to 5 inch hole.. and ... FIND OUT... if there is any moisture at root depth..

if not.. put a hose on trickle.. and water for as many hours as needed get 3water into the root mass... moving it every hour or two ...

it may or may not releaf.. and it probably doesnt matter.. as long as you save the leaves still on the tree..

its seriously stressed.. fertilizer is NEVER a reaction to stress...

Ok, thank you, i live in Malvern, NY Long Island. its been raining a lot. coukd it be that the mulch is depleting? ok, ill donthe 3-inch holes and water bid.
