Light and Mirror Placement with an offset sink.

Hello!

Recently tore out and remodeled our basement bathroom. Just hit a design element that warrants consideration. It's a 36' vanity with a left offset sink. I didn't move the light from the prior configuration and the light box is centered over the vanity. We have a 24" vanity light.

I had planned to buy a 24" x 30" mirror and hang it horizontally. It has a small brushed nickel border that works well with the room and makes it a bit more stylistically pleasing to my son (it's his bathroom). It's not pleasing to the eye. Curious which method you would choose to rectify.

What do you think I should do? Thanks in advance.

A) Get a larger, 36" mirror and leave the 24" light centered on the vanity.

B) Use the original mirror and hang it vertically, centered over the sink. Then buy a smaller, 12-18" light and move it to be centered over the sink.

C) Something else.

Ignore the sink bowl placement…the original light fixture looks like it is centered above the 36” width vanity…if so, that’s perfect. A mirror 30-36” wide should be centered above the vanity.

i feel like one more issue with this is that the cabinet is built with a counter to have 1/2" overhang on EITHER SIDE and the cabinet was shoved all the way in the corner so the top is overhanging ackwardly to the left. Not sure how hard it would be to move the cabinet 1/2" over and fill the right side with the spacer. IT may not even show when in the space and only in the photo but I have seen that issue before many times. I design bathroom shades that cover existing lights and often cover off center lights (but yours is not a style i do) I agree with what you already came up with - the bottom photo! This is correct regarding the counter. Unfortunately, this design flaw wasn’t picked up on until it was too late to return/reorder.

The only solution at this point would be a new counter. There isn’t 1/2” to spare on the 15” toilet code requirement. Luckily, its not nearly as noticable in person.

Between here, another forum, and a reddit poll… “Big mirror with light centered on vanity” was the clear winner. I think once the larger mirror is installed the symmetry will be less distracting.

No, the cabinet would just get moved over a half inch, and the counter would stay in place. And I agree a big mirror and just walking in the space probably not noticeable. I do Real Estate I can't before. I don't know why manufacturers don't make some bath cabinets with no overhang as there are a lot of places people would like that.
