Five FFOs on Tuesday

It's hard to believe I had five daylilies with their first flowers open in the middle of July, but I did.

Dr. Jules Michael Vinkman had not bloomed until today. It has two scapes up finally.

Euphoric with its first bloom of the season.

Hillbillly Heart had its ffo too.

Seedling Buddy's Victoria Jade X Skin of My Teeth #2 - I moved this one in April. That may be why it's just starting to bloom.

Spacecoast Alpha Wolf is a new one I just got in early June. The toothy edge looks great on this first bloom, but it may have a problem with splotching in my climate.

Seedling Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision started on a new rebloom scape today. It showed its prettiest color of the season and a very nice edge. I put pollen from Alpha Wolf on it.

Seedling Creataceous Crunch X Julie Newmar blooming on one of those late emerging scapes.

Moonlit Masquerade didn't start blooming until last weekend. It has three scapes going now.

Beautiful Debra. I like your seedling Seedling Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision for the vibrant color. Some gnarly teeth on it. It looks like Rouen Cathedral will be opening tomorrow here. It typically has been a late daylily so just a couple weeks early.

What are you hoping for crossing those two toothy daylilies?

All so pretty. I really like Euphoric. And Hillbilly Heart. Sp Alpha Wolf's edge is super. Moonlit Masquerade looks great. My favorite seedling is Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision, such rich purple color.

That Razor Sharp seedling is still a winner! I have a vision of how that cross with SC Alpha Wolf could look and I hope it does!! My Moonlit Masquerade still has not bloomed. Euphoric is a bright one. I love the color on the Buddy’s Victoria Jade seedling. What a wild and wacky season!

Julia - Yes, I agree the seedling does have some gnarly teeth on it. Rouen Cathedral here is blooming about a week later than ususal. I photographed it today, but the blooms were so bleached out by the hot temps that I decided not to post it.

Sherry - I cross that toothy seeding with everything else that's toothy. I'm trying to get a seedling that looks like it but has a larger bloom and improved bud count. My toothy seedling is only 5.5 inches. When we had a rainy Spring three years it had scapes with 23 and 17 buds, but most ofo othe scapes have a bud count of 12, so the bud average is only 13 or 14 (not enough for me to register).. SC Alpha Wolf is registered as having a 6 inch bloom with 24 buds. It has cultivars in its background with 7 inch blooms too, so theoretically I could get a seedling with 6.5-7 inch blooms. I added Thistles and Thorns last year for the same reason. It supposedly has a 6 inch bloom and can get 30 buds.

Nat - I was really glad these daylilies decided to bloom this year. The toothy seedling really looked like a true purple today. A lot of times it more red tones in it.

Kate - I'm excited about the prospect of using SC Alpha Wolf with several of my toothy seedlings. Maybe your Moonlit Masquerade will bloom by fall. I'm not giving up my others that haven't scaped. I like the color on the Buddy's Victoria Jade seedling too. It doesn't have enough buds to register,, but I think it will be a good bridge plant.

Beautiful blooms! One of my favorites is Dr Jules Michael Vinkman. Ours has not been doing that well. Your Razor Sharp seedling is very nice. I would have put SC Alpha Wolf on it too. Our SC Alpha Wolf has been splotchy on every bloom this season. Euphoric is also very pretty.

Nan - Dr. Jules has never performed well for me. I think it doesn't like the place I have it planted. I'm sorry to hear that SC Alpha Wolf is a splotcher for you. I'm thinking it probably will be for me too. The eye and edge on Euphoric are not as dark as they have been in previous years. I think the past few days in the 90s have caused them to fade.

Weird for plants like MM not to be blooming. Some plants just are off color this year. Hard to remember what they looked like in past.

I had Dr Jules til last year when it got crown rot. It always bloomed and grew really well here, blooms were usually bigger than stats. Unfortunately, it got crown rot and I lost every single fan. I don't plan to replace it, but waver on that. Lots of people admired it, a friend who has it was amazed at how big and vibrant mine was compared to hers. Spacecoast Alpha Wolf is a beauty, shame about the splotching, but I will be looking to see any seedlings you get from the cross of that with your new SC. Hope you get a fantastic plant from it.

Wasn't that a pleasant surprise after this weird season. Seedling Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision is really a nice one. Love the darks.

Kay - Yes, seeing those finally scape was a nice surprise.

Nancy - I think a lot of us got Dr. Jules from Laura. It grew like a weed for her. I'm sorry you lost yours. You lost a lot to crown rot last year.

Mantis - I've had other years where Moonlit Masquerade did not bloom until later - but not this late. I have had a few that are off-color this year. But mostly they have smaller blooms, shorter scapes and not many buds.

Vinkman here is terrible this year.

Mantis - I guess Dr. Jules is just not a weather warrior.

Euphoric gets my attention and then after that your Razor Sharp seedling. I do like the darks with the white edge.......Maryl

Euphoric looks like another one some one posts but I can't recall what. Citrix perhaps?

I love the color and form of Buddy's Victoria Jade X Skin of My Teeth #2. I hope it does well for you.

Brad - Euphoric usually has a much darker eye and edge. I guess they just faded over the several days of temps in the low 90s but a high heat index. Kay is the one who always posts the pictures of Citrix.
