Terminal Tipped Paniculata

I've been thinking about this on shaping

Every year - I spy what buds are showing and have a rough guesstimate of the new shoot length that can come come from it and prune to that bud. And the subsequent results is usually 2 or 3 new blooms off that prune. More often 2 but sometimes 3. Sometimes. if I cut back deeper into older wood , where I can see a nub, I will get maybe just 1 bloom off of it (as in this years case, where I cut back deeper on one stem for shaping, but it only seemed to have 1 dormant bud at my prune point)

Now here is the question.

If I deadhead it in fall, will it develop a terminal bud and simply just bloom from the tip if I am lucky enough ? It never registered to me this might be a end result as I'm looping off a few ft. off of it anyhow.

What would be the result if I tipped them in the fall. I don't want to spur new energy when it should be winding down but if I time it right, can I tip it, let it go dormant and I get a terminal bud off of it.
