images are very dark. off hand the perimeter looks pretty good to leave . maybe the peninsula/island is a spot to enact change but sounds discretionary. the tile floor in the red would not be my choice to leave for the long term. if you redo a floor it is kind of a chance to look at peninsula /island for changes. Maybe holding off for a while is smart. The feel of this space is warmth and a traditional feel but the perimeter says you could move into transitional but the question is how /where exactly. Right now you need to think over and use the space I believe.

I's choose a wallpaper of the time, with just hints of the floor and counter top; change out the fan (unless you need one, get a new one); paint the ceiling a true white. I think this paper is so cute.

I'd focus on replacing the floor tile and the reddish granite on the island to get rid of the red tones. I would not paint your perimeter cabinets. You could paint the island or the walls or both your preferred colors if you change the tile and counter.

I agree with @jlc712 that you should put your efforts to replacing the floor and replacing the counters. Do the floors first. A floor in a kitchen is always dominating because it takes up a lot of space and is horizontal. Everything will look different after the floors are changed. However, when were those floor tiles installed? If any time before the early ’80s, you need to check the floor tiles for asbestos before replacing them.

Your pictures are too dark to give advice about color.

After new floors are in, then choose new counters. I would also replace the fussy light. I don't know your budget, but you could think about installing ceiling cans and doing away with the single pendant light altogether.

I would not change any of the cabinets at this time.

You can try a start with some re-decorating and then see how you feel about demolition. Things look in fine shape.

As mentioned, paint the ceiling and walls and crown molding white. Look at Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.

Optional wallpaper as suggested.

Paint the Island and the cabinet above it white...or the island green.

Paint all the window trim a nice leaf green and use that color for decor. The blue by @elcieg is nice too.
