I wouldn’t worry one bit about pairing that fabric with anything you like. From your pics, it looks to be perfectly neutral and not in the least bit busy.

The soulless design trends in the past decade have people scared to mix even the most subtle of colors and patterns.

How exactly will the flooring be changed? What other furniture will be in there? Any curtains planned? Any other rugs nearby?

Yup. But there are so many choices! That's why I'm hoping for some guidance. I've already spent hours on those sites and my head is on the verge of exploding. As for your question below: no chairs yet. The only current thing staying in the room is the TV. I figure I should pair the rug with the nine-foot couch first and worry about chairs later. I have to work piecemeal.

What chairs are going in this space? Do they have a pattern? You are trying to find a rug based upon one piece of furniture.

Monitors are fickle, but looking at the floor, the walls. and the upholstery, thinking you should "brown" it up a bit to balance all three tones.

I have to show you this rug from abc Carpet and Home...it's $19,000.00, but it would look great!

Now I see the sofa for some reason it did not show before . IMO the sofa is a great color to work with but are the parquet floor satying? If so then I think a really nice shag would be my choice Texture is great but pattern with that floor is not great . I would look for a huge white shag rug then add some color with art and large pieces with that sofa. Lighting is a must and nice glass coffee table maybe a Noguchi with a v\black base could work .

Thanks much but the couch has a Euro-modern vibe to it. I think these are a little too arts-and-crafts.

Because your walls are greige, the color of your sectional leans a bit blue. You can look for gray rugs, but ones that lean blue will coordinate easier.

@shirlpp: Nothing else is going on yet other than painting. And there's a TV opposite the couch. I'll worry about a chair or chairs once I decide on a rug. I need to do this gradually.

Ruggable has a lot of nice rugs. Suggestion - order the small size for sampling.

Your best bet is probably to visit a few stores that sell rugs. You can then feel the quality since a lot of rugs are made with synthetics.

IMO you can never go wrong with a traditional oriental carpet.

If you find a rug online that you like, order the smallest size available so you can see if you like the colors and texture in your home. Much easier to return than re-wrapping and dragging a giant rug to the UPS store.

I'd try to find something that ties together the colors of the floor, walls and sofa.
