I purchased a Kitchenaid dual fuel stove 36" and the grates are cracking, chipping and rusting model KFDC506JSS if you look up the price of thos stove you'll see it goes for $7k. Outrages, I know but my husband really wanted a stove with power. The stove is beautiful, or it was for about a month then the chipping started on the grates. We had a chip here and there then more came and when I cleaned them they started to rust due to the exposed metal. The burners with the most damage the are wok grates that sit on the 20k BTU Burners which would lead us to think the high heat is affecting the grates. The manufacturer produced a bad untested grate to the high heat of the Burner. If there's a "lemon law" for grates this would qualify.why do they only cover them for 30 days? My thinking is the manufacturer knows they cannot withstand the high heat. How do you clean them if you can use dish soap and water? You can't clean them when they are hot so once they cool you should be able to clean with soap and water, but you can't. Each grate runs about $130 so for 6 of them this is $780 a set and if I have to replace them every year or two because they chip and crack and eventually rust. Would that constitute a manufacturer defect? Help! How do you clean your grates to stop rust? Are there alternatives to this grates? Have you had recourse with kitchenaid?
