how to avoid glam…

I am moving into a new stunning space, trying to avoid a “glam” even though it has black white and gold. Please help on living room and dining room ideas to make it feel more modern organic!

Is that your furniture ? I think the space I see in the kitchen is very contemporary and not really IMO glam just simple. I find the end tables in the LR glam so I am not sure what you want . IMO the DR furniture can go any style with different rugs and light fixture but the floors are pretty much contemporay and unless you are going the toat opposite and doing ver traditional embrace what you can't change and change what ylu can. Probably maybe more on the silver scale for lighting not gold. Nice rugs and lamps all will tend to move this to less glam.

I don't know if this furniture is the previous owner or yours but be careful in what you select. The dining table and chairs is like a lump of coal in a graceful space.

The tables in the living room in chrome and glass contribute to the glam appearance.

Don't add any more shine. Think drier textures. Sisal, jute in rugs. Or chunky neutral wools . Open and airy pale woods for tables.

Warm caramel, spicy tones in leather, no to more black and gray. Softer, more upholstered dining chairs.

The point is touchable, tactile texture!! Nothing cold to the touch : )

If it looks like you WANT to touch it? You probably WANT whatever it is.

At some point, if you can change counter tops and splash in the kitchen? Can consider a true marble , or even a less boldly veined quartz? That will help as well. A change to the fire wall........same thing. Less harsh, please.

Don't rush ....take your time. Rome wasn't built in a single day.

@jan thank you ! Those are great suggestions and definitely the vibe I am going for! Love the light wood idea

    What about basket-look pendants?

Great windows and light! Totally agree with Jan that texture and wood will make a huge difference- it were me I would take down that marble piece over the FP before my movers had left the drive way 😅 I also think softening the lighting will go a long way and would be an easy change

Accessories, rugs, lighting, and furniture will have a huge influence. If budget allowed, I’d reface fireplace (plaster, tile, shiplap ,etc). Try looking on line for ideas. Good luck.

All that marble is shiney and "glam". It's all a bit much for me.

The dining table and chairs is like a lump of coal in a graceful space.

I wouldn't say they're a lump of coal, but it is a lot of black. The easiest thing to do is to add a tablecloth; that'll cut down on the amount of black. While you're at it, add a rug under the table; that'll cut down on the excessive marble.

    Alternately, paint the whole set.

Think drier textures. Sisal, jute in rugs. Or chunky neutral wools .

I like those finishes, but I don't see them fitting in with all this marble.

Do you have new furniture for this home? Textures and pale wood items and window treatments to cut glare and mute some of those outside views will be helpful. I wouldn’t go all farmhouse look rather sophisticated and chic. Depends on what you are going for.

Try looking up Japandi style. I think this concept would be just what your home needs. Here are a few examples. Linens, light woods, textures and calmness. I would select main furniture pieces first then decide on rugs and see how the existing lighting works with those selections. I would hang a carved wood antique piece from the ceiling over the black stone surface in the living room before painting tried taking that stone down. It would soften the look and act like artwork. Or a screen. Many good ways to “blend” that stone without removing it.

The fixtures and kitchen countertop/backsplash scream glam, so if there is money to change those, I'd start looking. If you were referring to wicker-type fixtures, I would go with them.

@Jan Moyer gave you good, specific instructions.

Black is great...... but you have to know where to stop. It always needs the "other", the balance, light, crunch!! , grass cloth, stone , earth oriented. Otherwise? It will go glammy

I didn’t think glam at all when I first saw your pictures, OP. I thought sleek and modern.

Textiles — rugs, curtains, etc — will bring in much needed texture and softness to the sleek surfaces. Colorful art, and bringing in your own personality with that and other decor will make a difference, too.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on worrying this is glam just because there is a lot of marble.

Can you show examples of the furniture you’ll have, or are you buying new? How is your current home decorated?

Usually when I use "glam" it implies that extra dose of the " opposite of organic, a bit lacking in the "granola factor". More chi chi : )

There are ways to have both. Which of course can make you a bit nuts lol

Thank you all so much! A lot of great tips here. I also saved some of the photos for inspo. Buying all new furniture. Thinking the “sunset beige” sofa from cozey. Also loving the leather chairs with black legs in the pic above ! Cheers

    If you like modern organic,

if you like more organic and natural, try textures, neutrals, leather, wood, more boho-

get rugs to cover the marble floor in the dining area. for that I'd get a natural wood table, natural material light. something like this
