Jordan River is quilted

Here is my latest quilt. It finished at 63" x 77". It's called Jordan River, and it's from The Big Book of Patchwork by Judy Hopkins. I have had so much enjoyment out of my new-to-me longarm. I had my doubts in the beginning, but I love it now. I worried about how hard it would be when running by the computer and running out of bobbin. It was a piece of cake to "repair pattern," as it's called. Now I just have to figure out how to import additional quilting patterns from the Internet, because the ones that are built into the program are limited.

Now I have to start on a quilt for my stepson. He loves the quilt I made for him years ago, but he has grown to 6'5", and he needs a longer one. He "ordered" a quilt in greens and browns with a hunting and fishing motif and a minky backing. The quilt needs to be about 70" x 95". I bought a few panels and some appropriate fabric. Now I have to design it, which I've never done before. Wish me luck. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Jordan River is beautiful. I'm in awe of the huge sizes you make. Glad to know you learned enough about the long arm to enjoy it. Inspirtion? i thumb through magazines and books until one pattern jumps out and yells "ME"

Another exquisitely pieced quilt! I want to be you when I grow up. LOL I try so hard to cut and sew accurately, and I still get wonky quilts.

Enjoy designing the quilt for your stepson. I would say decide on a panel (or panels) and surround them with blocks you like. If you need to increase either the length or width only, add a row of blocks to top & bottom or each side, or borders of differing widths. Do you have EQ or other quilt design software? It's fun to play with blocks and colors. With EQ you can import a picture of your panel and start from there.

Thanks, Ladies. Donna, I don't have a design program, so I'll just have to figure it out. You did give me an idea. I hadn't thought about making blocks. I was just thinking more "frames" for the panels. Now I'm thinking a few bear paw blocks in the corners would be fun. We'll see.
