First Question: Trying to pick a good color for this large room. We would like a beige / gray - beige or something neutral. The fireplace brick needs help (will maybe cover at some point) and we are stuck as to how to work with the brownish saltillo floors and fireplace. I should also mention that there is an atrium which connects this room to another including our breakfast room and kitchen.
Second Question: What color to carry into the breakfast room / kitchen. Rooms are separated by a wall of cabinetry but they still connect. Have used SW Kilim Beige & Balanced Beige in other rooms.

Hi lrex, I think your room looks great as it is !!! It feels fresh and airy with simple white walls and tiles. Even the fireplace bricks works well if you want a beach kind of look.

Looks like you have some sample paints on the wall, I find the Balanced Beige more sophisticated with more greyish tones.

Personally, I like the white - It feels so light and breezy like a summer poolhouse.

I could see it with Seagrass rugs, white slipcovered sofas, natural wood tables and Navy & white pillows & draperies and brass accents.

Thanks for your input! Love the idea of slipcovered sofas. Next dilemma...need window treatments or something for privacy on occasion along that big window / door. This is an older home recently purchased and in need of some freshening up.

Kilim beige and Balanced beige are both excellent colors. Try SW Latte in the atrium room, which is a nice warm beige, it would go great with your other colors and would also look great with the white bookcases. An affordable update for your fireplace would be to look into covering it up with a really great large sized vertical tile, maybe even something like whats on your kitchen back splash.

We'd like to lean more toward contemporary so a vertical tile may be the answer. It would be nice to use the kitchen tile in an adjoining room to have more continuity. Thank you and any other suggestions are appreciated!

You have such a beautiful fireplace - I wouldn't cover it at all.

The things that seem to need attention are the kitchen cabinets and kitchen floor - I'd replace the parquet with more of the saltillo tile in the rest of the space and redo the paint on the cabinets...
...and replace those vertical blinds with draperies - simple patterned draperies on a long wood rod would look great there, perhaps layered over some natural blinds such as bamboo or matchstick.
