I think you've got a great space that just needs a bit more warmth. I'd keep the couch but reduce the number of pillows, and then maybe consider a lighter-colored area rug (in a sisal, maybe?). I'd also add some personality to the walls with some wood wall art like these. Maybe a collection of these on the big wall?

I agree with shaunaanderson that some warmth is needed, and art is a great way to start. Once you’ve found something you love, it will suggest another color for accents. I chose these photos for inspiration based on the photos you posted. This first one with the curvy chair is included because I feel the room needs something to break up all the linear aspects.
