ALL conifers are pretty flammable....most contain high levels of resins and terpenes. How much of an actual fire hazard they are would depend on how likely a brush or wildfire may occur.

I live in an area where very large conifers (60-150') are very heavily present and in many cases, quite close to houses and other structures. There is a 80' Doug fir within 20 feet of my house and many more a bit farther out. But because brush or wildfires in this area are extremely uncommon I don't really have any concerns. Nor do other homeowners. In fact, many neighborhoods have native tree removal restrictions.

Concerns about trees planted in close proximity to houses and other structures tend to be overstated in most cases. There are exceptions of course.

I wouldn't be worried about it from a flammability standpoint, unless there is concern with people starting fires underneath it.

You didn't state what kind of spruce. If it's say a Norway Spruce, I certainly wouldn't want it 7-10' away from my building just because of the massive size it will attain in a relatively short amount of time. If that's the case, it would be much cheaper to remove now then later.

any chance at some pix... i dont understand how a 25 to 30 foot conifer.. tree.. only 10 feet away.. the branches are still 2 or 3 feet from the building... lets start with an ID...

Well...if OP is on the 2nd or 3rd floor apt.

The shorter top branches of a spruce could be farther out from the building.

A picture would answer all questions to that effect.

You probably have a greater chance of the building itself having a fire than for the tree to start up from outside the building.

I think if a fire burns close enough to your house to catch that tree on fire, you have bigger problems than a spruce tree.
