Hi, @sheridan5 - Though we offered alternate ideas to modify the existing space to provide more clearance for this door, ultimately the homeowners went with a similar layout to the one existing, keeping the door as is, with enough clearance to access seldom used items.

A door that slid up and locked in place (like a dbl-hung window) would have kept the integrity of the door style and allowed easier access. But to each his own.
