Bedroom wall art ideas

Hey all! I'm looking for suggestions on wall art ideas above our master bed. Would something like this look good? Or would I need something with a bit more brown in it? I'm not creative at all when it comes to art and wall decor.

The flowers are pretty & a good ’restful tranquil’ for a bedroom but so would many other images be. No to more brown I think but more color contrast with wall color would be good. Do you have or plan color for bedding? Pilllows / duvet / quilt etc? Any other colors in room or planned for? If so I’d get all those pieces in place first then choose art with some ot the same colors. Also & most important to me - I’d choose art based on an image that I love, that means something to me & not purely for the decorator aspect of it. Art shold be a very personal thing that reflects your personality. Others can tell a person whether or not the piece works in a space but that’s about it. So, your flowers do work but do you love them is the question!

Thank you for those tips. I don't have any further bedding yet. Just a white duvet. So I can start anywhere with the room. Having no more brown is a good idea because I also have two dressers in dark brown. I would like to bring a colour in. Just not sure what yet!

So, yes, you have a clean slate! What a fun project. Try not to rush it as you’ll likely be happier with result as you’re taking time to ponder. Do you have a main color scheme in the rest of your home? That’s a great place to start. My home really does flow with a common room to room scheme. Purely a happy accident on my part because I used my favorite personal clothing colors when buying furniture. Deep wine / merlot / gold tones / black. And, lots of wood - we love wood tones! The result of this common theme is that I’ve been able to move smaller items around the house - pillows, throws, small art pieces etc. We did downsize from our last home to our current one & it was great to be able to use so many of the pieces we love in different ways in our new home. So, back to you - favorite colors or common color theme in your home? Do you have a master bath attached to this bedroom? It’s always nice to have a color flow between these two rooms.

If you’re still looking for a new comforter or duvet cover as in your previous post, I’d wait for that or at least be thinking of the 2 items together, at least in terms of a mood board or other photo collection of possible candidates.

For example, if you decide to go pale cream type neutral with the bedding , then I’d look for art that has a bit more oomph, the stronger contrasts as suggested above, or the neutrals with a bit of 3rd more lively color.

Versus if you fall in love with another patterned comforter or quilt.

Because bedrooms are typically smallish rooms and often desirable to have a restful scheme, I think it’s fine to choose art based significantly on color scheme and subject matter, especially if one isn’t a big art collector or doesn’t have an existing very sentimental piece that’s worth basing everything else on. So, in that sense I think there’re more choices in the online art world than in bedding, by the time you factor in fabrics and prices. Still I agree with above commenter on taking some time to think what subject matter holds some meaning—botanical vs landscape vs abstract vs creatures or people etc. Or just “ the one” that catches your eye the most.

So much to think about so I'll definitely have to take a little more time. I like the idea of blowing up one of our wedding photos on a canvas to hang above the bed with some wall accent decor on either side. I like this kind of style. I also am thinking of adding a little greenery in the decor.

So our main interiors are painted in pale oak. Our nursery opposite our room will be painted in a lighter blue grey. (See lower paint sample on wall). We're planning to do white nursery furniture in that room.

Our main bathroom is separate (not attached to master bedroom. We will be removing the chair rail and using a light sage/green to paint the walls. I have a bit of greenery decor in there too. Excuse the mess!

Update! I've found a duvet cover I love. It's fluffier/cosier compared to others I've tried. It's the third on the bottom out of all 3 I've tried. I'm thinking about blowing up some of our wedding photos onto canvas to put on the wall with sconces on either side but I'm not sure about sizing and how to figure out what size looks best.

Yes cozy & textured. Sizing- create mockups of sizes with paper, cardboard or just tape out on wall. Look at sizes offered & use them as guide for mockups. I guess you’re not thinking of hanging over the bed, right? Since you mention sconces on either side must be on another wall since sconces wouldn’t work with the bedside lamps you already have - unless the sconces will replace the lamps. In that case, I’d figure out the sconce size & placement before doing anything with art.

Thank you. I was thinking about sconces around the side but like you said, it would look strange with the bedside lamp there. I did try out taping a 12*18 canvas yesterday on the wall. I'm not sure if fitting three would be too much above the headboard but the length along there is 62 inches I think it was. So it would either be the canvas photos or maybe a horizontal wall accent decor.

You have well enough space for 3 pieces of 12” wide art with at least 3” between & centered over headboard with 3” in from each side. No to sconces with lamps. Is there a lamp & night stand on each side of bed?

We only have the one side table. I do have another of that lamp in the nursery we're prepping for our first baby! Please excuse the mess. It's bedding laundry day. 😂 As well as the TV. That is just a temp place till we semi finish our basement.

Think about getting another side table & using the lamp. That’s a very nice bedroom set but the new night stand doesn’t have to exactly match the set. That’s a nicely framed photo on your tall dresser - a wedding photo? It would be pretty centered over the bed with 2 additional - 1 each side - canvas only no frame photos close to same side. It would make an interesting arrangement.

ETA - your crown trim is really nice.

Yes it's a wedding photo! It hasn't been hung up in 10 years since our wedding lol. Just leaning against the wall. I'm currently thinking of doing three canvas/frame wedding photos above the bed within the headboard length.
