Vinyl coated wallpaper is easy to wipe clean and abrasion resistant. If you have scrimmaging 300 lb linebackers, replace the wood framed walls with cement block walls and maybe tile over them.

^^ Agree (we actually wallpapered our stair risers 10+ years ago as a temp fix and they still look perfect, no scuffs etc)

Formica

IMO formica will stand up to whatever you throw at it but really a forever choice so choose wisely. Viyl wall per is a good choice make sure to prime the wall before installing it so that when a change is needed you can remove it easier . I find the droor jambs get more wear that the wall and the lockers are easy you just get real lockers like in a school metal walls no big issue ever/ I actually use real lockers often in mud rooms for clients with eack kid having their own and in fun colors.

At the new residence halls at a community college my son attended, they used some type of coir wallpaper (I’m not sure it was called wallpaper - it was heavy and textured) in the common areas. Google coir wall coverings.
