They're properly sized but since only the windows on the right are suitable for them and the other windows don't have them I would remove them.

I think the main issue is that instead of having 1 large shutter covering both the main window and the transom on each side of the 1st floor windows, you’ve chosen to have 2 which makes it look busy. That and the 2nd floor singles- though correctly sized, seem to be throwing the balance of the facade off.
I’m a shutter lover, but I think on your beautiful house I would skip them.

Your house is gorgeous but the shutters are a misstep. If they are custom and you can't stomach not using them, I would paint them the color of the downspouts and see if that looks better to you.

No shutters, it is not the style or the type of shutters (although the split shutters look awful in my opinion), it is just shutters in general. The house and window style do not lend themselves to shutters. Take them down now before the siding discolors.

Remove the shutters. You have a beautiful home and the shutters do not compliment.

I would use single shutters painted white. If you live in an area which gets heavy weather, working shutters can protect the windows. If your area rarely has big weather, you could eliminate the shutters altogether, but I like the way shutters make windows look a bit more important.

I think the problem is the size and style contrast between the big, contemporary panels on the shutters next to the much-smaller and more traditional shake siding -- the shutters look temporary, almost like big swatches of color samples painted on the walls. I agree with everyone that simply removing them would be the best, especially since I really like your siding. :D

At first I thought you had some cardboard mock-ups placed around the windows. They look cheap and don't look like any shutters I have ever seen.

You are right they do not look right and they do not belongs on those windows so forget them no matter what style .

Actually casement windows would not have shutters unless they were in-swinging casements, because how would you access them to close them from inside if the window opened out?
