While several nocutids in the genus Euxoa are similar, this from Athetis stands out:

For all 5 medial FW lines, yours has the correct meanders and shading.

I was did look at that tribe, Noctuini, and there are even 9 from that genus, Euxoa, in "Peterson field guide to moths of Northeastern North America, by David Beadle and Seabrooke Leckie", but no E. tarda. Thanks again for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Interesting notes:

- BG states: "The only species in the genus listed for America, north of Mexico."

- few web sites with mapped records show a record in my area, the only one coming close is iNaturalist

Correction: Peterson field guide to moths of Northeastern North America by David Beadle and Seabrooke Leckie does have it in their book, however, it is listed under a synonym (Athetis tarda), in a completely different tribe, and their map does not show it in MI.

Athetis tarda, the Slowpoke, is the correct ID.

I did not like any of the Euxoa species for an ID. There is no E. tarda.

A. tarda dates from 1852

Both the Moth Photographers Group and Bugguide maps (Data tab) show it observed in southern Michigan.

Ranges are important but are often very dated. Anyplace in the US with oak trees in the range of latitude and longitude of states described in bugguide info tab, "Range" are likely habitat for A. tarda.
