Seal King 5 Gallon

• Seal Kings high performance paving stone sealer is a one component water based acrylic/urethane system. It is specially formulated to enhance the beauty of the stone by penetrating deep into the substrate leaving a glossy wet look appearance. This sealer will protect the brick from oil, gas, transmission fluid, anti freeze salt and slush.

So if you apply this sealer it will protect the stone from oil & food stains but it will darken the appearance of the blue stone. What is your preference?

Since it's a covered patio do you expect to have anything get on it that it needs protection from?

kandrewspa - It will be a casual seating area. We will eat and drink in the area, my concern would be someone spilling something.

That stone has survived for 1000s of years a drink spilled will not have much effect I think one you start sealing you will need to do it forever why take a no upkeep stone and make it more work

Personally, I didn’t seal my patio when we installed it last year, and I wish we did! With this summer’s rainy, humid weather, our grout (if that’s what it’s called) turned green from mildew.

Sealing the patio doesn't prevent mildew from growing on the mortar, however, the sealer prevents the mildew from dark staining the mortar permanently so it can be cleaned off.

If any greasy foods on dropped on unsealed stone, it will likely leave some type of oil or grease stain that will take some work to eliminate.

I’ve had slate patios and left them natural.

Susie - has food or drink been dropped on the bluestone? my previous house had a bluestone walkway that we didn't seal it and we had no issues. With this being a patio I am mainly concerned about someone spilling red wine or a food that would stain the stone.

I don’t think any red wine has been spilled on mine, so I can’t help you there. Bat guano has been deposited and it hasn’t stained.

My bluestone patios are not sealed and look great 15 years later. Invest in an inexpensive power washer (I have a SunJoe) and clean the bluestone periodically as needed.

Our bluestone patio is not sealed and has had plenty of spills. No issues.

Also not sealed and no problems so far. In my opinion, it looks better this way too.
