Pictures usually get more help

I need pictures these activities are in my head really not compatible so pics and some idea of why this is the only space for all these .

The "existing" cabinets are not accessible at this time. The questions remains--should the countertop be "painted" or "stained" for durability and also to coordiate with the one stained cabinet that will be in the room. Thank you.

It's nice to break up the wood with something painted, especially in a small space.
