With no dimensions or cabinets on the lighting plan it’s hard to help much. Cans should be over the edge of the counter so 24” from the wall. I generally install mine about 4’ on center but it depends on the cabinet layout.

You need to show the FLAT on paper cabinet plan within the entire space. The one with the dimensions of cabinets, walls, appliances, It shows the entry to the space etc.

The light can be adjusted within each of the recessed, if you have good ones. You can select from 3000 to 5000K. I find 35OO perfect, everywhere, and on dimmers.

Have you NO under cabinet light in this?

Was there a reason for high hats at dining table, which could have been a complement fixture to the pendant selection?

Where was the electrical plan when you began connections to circuit box???

Thank you for your input. Here is the kitchen layout with cabinets. We had not chosen our pendants for over the island and we thought it might be too much hanging but now I regret that decision? Too late to change to one pendant? We wonder.

Oh and yes we have under cabinet lighting planned.

Some of the replies you get will be biased, because some people hate recessed lights! Never too late to change things, but it will take more time and money. Yours should be quite easy since they haven't even skim coated or plastered the ceiling or walls.

I have a lot of recessed light in my house, but they are separated into different groups with their own switches and they all have dimmers. How are they grouping/switching the ones you show?

Thank you Chispa! Gratefully our architect was able to come over and look at our dilemma. He said the same thing to add dimmers to all and to make the lights over the dining room table one switch and the two recessed lights near them another switch. In addition, the pendants one switch, sink lights one switch and then all the remaining recessed lights it’s own switch. Phew! I feel so much better! Thanks for all of your thoughts! Becky
