The bathroom door was already up when we started dating, but now he’s decided to do another one for the closet.. except he’s not taking into consideration if they will look somewhat cohesive.. pray for me lol

Post a photo of the glass door. I’m wondering if the same concept could be used but open like a bifold style for the closet. Perhaps closet doors can be similar to the bedroom door?

I grew up on a farm and I probably have more expertise in barn door fabrication, operation, painting and repairs than the majority of houzzers. Barn doors are perfect for...a barn!

Even if it wasn’t a barn door, but a regular door, I would want them to be the same style. You wouldn’t put a slab door on the closet and six panel on the entry. This sounds like a terrible idea. You can tell him I said so.

I am a no barn door EVER and for sure not on a bathroom person. Given your situation I would attempt to get the existing door moved to the closet and suggest a 'look alike' PRIVACY door for the bathroom. If you can't 'win' that tussle well frankly I would reconsider where I live. By now the downside of the barn door is evident and if the chooser can't admit it you are in for a very long haul!!!

I agree with everyone that barn doors in a residence are not a good idea. And two different styles in one room is just plain bad design. Tell him that his idea would be awful for resale.

If your name isn't on the mortgage or the deed and he didn't ask you for design advice, then you have no say. Even if he did ask for design advice, he makes the final decision.

Of course the OP has a say. I don’t know if she is his official wife, or common law, etc., etc. But to say that she has no say if her name is not on the mortgage or deed is inaccurate and unrealistic. If she is living there, she has a say.

That said, I personally do not interfere with a man’s space when it is his property and he has designed things the way he wants. But that is a personal choice on my part.

If I had no financial interest in this house, and my partner was adamant about his barn doors, I wouldn't choose this hill to die on.
