He painted PVC green so when his plants are in season you cannot see the tube.

Very clever! I also love the idea of the long containers. I would consider doing that in my backyard, but my husband wouldn't agree I think. I have a feeling that your friend grows in a milder climate than mine. Don't think it would work for perennials (hosta!) in zone 6, Canada, where I am due to the cold winters.

My friend is here in Jacksonville Florida too. He is a daylily hybridizer, and he does have some pretty plants. I am not sure how PVC does in the North I know in the South it is just about forever. There are 2 thickness to PVC schedule 40 and schedule 80. Maybe the sch 80 would be better up North as it is thicker, and it may also be grey in color. Looks like rain coming.
