Such a light and airy space you have to work with! If TV is now wall mounted, perhaps a nice console below it but should be wider than the TV. If wall color will stay the same perhaps consider getting a much larger rug in the colors you love for the space. From there you can figure out furniture arrangement, style and colors. Try and draw out the layout of the room and post here a photo of it so the professional folks can offer you layouts to consider. I would explore a different mantle for fireplace to bring more warmth to the space that can be complimented with other pieces in the room. Good luck to you!

You will need a MUCH larger rug. The art installation over the couch is hung much too high and it all just too small to carry that wall for starters. If the TV is hung there now perhaps the art above could be used over the couch. Do you have an idea board--there is a mix of styles in this room that makes it difficult to tell which direction you might like to go.

Is this Florida or a wet climate? I'd start with the flooring.

You need a measured floor plan, all the dimensions.

Make a bold, legible drawing with all the dimensions of the family room, walls. windows. door, all of it. Where does the door lead? Deck, yard/ patio etc?

I would love to see your fireplace art work hung (lower) over your couch. I think it would bring a nice pop of color to that side of the room. The light triptych over your tv seems way to high, and sort of boring. It fades away. My suggestion is before you do anything, take all your art down and everything off your walls, shelves, etc. In other words….get a fresh start. And shop your entire house for items to display before you buy anything more! We all get “blind” to what we have. Sometimes you just have to move things around to “see” them again!

I think the heavy, lumpy, darkness of the sofas has done its time, especially if this climate is warm temperature. : ) Sorry....

Hi! Im back, I posted yesterday about my current design dilemma and everyone suggested mapping out my current idea via room layout. I took a stab at it. Here are photos of the current space and a very rough floor plan with my proposed idea. The walls are light gray now and the tv is on the same wall but is now mounted (72 inch with high ceilings). I plan to add a large area rug and hang curtains high. We are growing our family and want a cozier space. The living room is odd shaped:

*Back corner fireplace

*Angled wall (49 inch wall)

*Deep but narrow room)

*50 inch angle is an open doorway and the 114 inch wall is a bookshelf/fireplace.

....are some of the design issues we have to name a few.

Our goal is to maximize seating capacity (Id like to be able to comfortably sit 4-6. Currently stumped on if we should do corner sectional, sofa/loveseat, sectional/accent chairs. etc. Also stumped on how to fill areas on either side of console and the random 49 inch angled wall. I prefer darker fabrics since well have a new baby, and Im indifferent on furniture styles.

It looks like how you have your furniture could work, even with new furniture, or you could look at doing a sofa and two chairs instead of a sofa and loveseat. Below are some design ideas we thought we'd share. We might recommend looking at getting a larger rug, getting a longer lower console for under the TV, and some new furniture for the space.
