i believe that is the correct ID. I detest this tree, very weedy and attracts boxelder beetles.

I had an infestation of these beetles a decade ago over a two year period in one of two south-facing garages. The beetles are harmless, kinda attractive with the orange coloration but who need hundreds off them coming out en masse from late Winter into early Spring. Apparently, they feed on boxelder and like to lay eggs near south-facing structures for the warmth.

I've never seen one with any age on it that looks all that good.

Wonky but characterful. Apparently needs no soil!

I got to help the neighbor across the street remove 3 ft. dia., half hollow, leaves sprouting from everywhere, bug filled, ratty looking tree a year ago.

What a great feeling seeing the half rotten, reddish/black wood inside the cut pieces all piled up on a trailer leaving the cul-de-sac.

Did I mention how much I don't like Acer negundo?
