We have two living room spaces, the front living room where the front door is and a parlor next to it, which we use as the TV room

Well that worked so I’ll try again…Congrats on the new home! Your entry room reminds me of an old craftsman with an inglenook fireplace in the entry hall! It’s a great space and so character filled! Don’t be stuck…this is easy! If/when the budget allows, add 2 more leather/coordinating chairs and place them in a 4 square configuration in front of the fireplace around either a round club table or cocktail table. They will be centered in the opening to the living room, so they will feel connected to the living room. This will provide a nice spot for adults while children are playing in the living room. The alcoves beside the fireplace could be furnished with plants, small console tables/cabinets topped with lamps, art, photos, decor or bar top accoutrements. Then the other end of the room could be furnished as a proper foyer, with the small cabinet moved to the opposite wall and topped with a lamp, mirror, and decorative box/tray. A small bench with a basket below and decorative hooks above could be placed in the corner opposite the staircase and provide storage for coats/shoes and a landing spot for coming and going. Hopefully the piano and bookcase could find a more appropriate spot somewhere else in your home. Best wishes in your new place!

You should have stayed with one post. I'm not going to go back and read the 14 other comments and make my suggestion here. What's the point? There is no segue.

You might look at doing a small loveseat, curved sofa, or 4 chairs facing the fireplace. Since you don't have a ton of space that might work well there and then have a small play area near the stairs. You can define the spaces with rugs. Perhaps also look at doing a small bench to the left of the front door with some hooks above. That would give you a play area, sitting area, and a place to sit and put on shoes. I like the coat racks posted byn Olychick. For the other side of the room, I’d pull the chairs out of the corners and place a small table between them. I think the photos over the door casing wold look better on either side of the fireplace. I’d replace the artwork over the matel with a mirror and two battery operated lamps or wall sconces. I think the pet bowls could be nice in the alcove to the right of the fireplace.
