That’s a beautifully crafted staircase but yes it’s a bit traditional. In my last house I had a similar staircase which I paired with round handrail and stainless steel rods. It’s a far cry from a 40k floating stair though.

I suggest you look at the tons of staircase photos that Houzz has; put the ones you love into your Houzz Ideabook. Then, show them to your carpenter. Several years ago I had a new oak staircase installed by a fabulous master carpenter, who only fabricates staircases. I knew exactly what I wanted. I saved tons of staircase photos that I loved. My carpenter also spent a lot of time matching my staircase stain to the color of our Italian porcelain wood look tile flooring. We are still quite happy with our new staircase. I think a flaoting staircase would have been the answer but nowremove that trim and get a fabulous metal railing and if your city allows horizontal cable Then stain the stairs the same as the main floor.
