I find the bar handles easier to use and more attractive, so that's what I always get.

I want to see the controls and the time remaining so I'd choose the Bosch SHE53B75UC with recessed handles and save at least $300 by doing so.

My main prep area is the counter with the dishwasher. I’ve had three dishwashers and recessed is a requirement.

Recessed. Bar handles collect 'stuff' and can be difficult to clean. I have one and it is more than difficult--more like next to impossible to clean.

After leaning towards choosing the recessed because my kitchen is super tight, I chose the bar because I read that over time the recessed one shows wear. And honestly, I really appreciate being able to hang a towel on the bar and I think the bar is functionally nice.

My Bosch dishwasher is in a corner. It needed no bar, so that the drawer perpendicular to it could open.

I prefer a bar, because it's easier to clean than a recessed handle. That said, I have a recessed handle because that was the only style available in the model I wanted at the time I needed it. It works just fine, but (because my hands aren't always clean when I open the dishwasher), I have to remember to clean it even though it doesn't look dirty.

My most recent dishwasher purchase was a KitchenAid. Which I like very much, contrary to many of the opinions that I read at GW/Houzz. Anyhow, I much prefer the recessed handle. I seem to catch or bang into every handle in the kitchen. I'm tired of walking around with bruises. I'd go recessed. My KA has both recessed and a panel that allows me to see the status of a load.

We are currently living in an Airbnb because our KitchenAid leaked water while we were gone. Totally destroyed our hardwood floors and cabinets! It was 8 years old. Replacing with one of these Bosch dishwashers with LEAK GUARD. It's been a total nightmare. Found out today the subfloor is not drying so we have to replace that too. Because we have an open floor plan we have to have movers come and put our entire 1st floor furniture in storage and have the entire floor resanded and stained. Keep an eye on your dishwashers whatever the brand is! You can buy alarm systems for them on Amazon to tell if they are leaking! Our insurance adjuster said he has seen it happen with Bosch too!

@Dyan Weis, we had a KitchenAid dishwasher leak, too, that was only four years old. Damage not as catastrophic as yours: subfloor did dry out and it did not damage the hardwood floors (water, fortunately, did not flow that direction), though adjacent cabinets were damaged, making the kitchen renovation that was already sort of on the horizon a welcome event. Needless to say, no more KitchenAid dishwashers for us, but we are putting a stainless pan under the Bosch that is replacing it that will redirect leaks outward to where they are immediately visible, and considering an alarm, too. In hindsight, the KitchenAid had likely been leaking insidiously for a couple of weeks before obvious damage (a warped cabinet wall) alerted us.

Sorry to hear that. I would like to know more about that stainless pan? How does that work? Our kitchen and hardwood floors are near new. We had a complete reno of our first floor including all new kitchen cabinets, hardwood floors, staircase, everything just a few years ago. I wish this would have happened with our old kitchen!

@Dyan Weis, it's just a pan with three raised sides, placed under the dishwasher so that the open side will direct water to the front and out to where it is hopefully more noticeable (pic of one available online below). Available online (Google "Dishwasher Pan"), but we had a local metal fabricator make one for us within a day.
